Threatened species are any species which are vulnerable to extinction in the near future. Species that are threatened are sometimes characterised by the population dynamics measured through biomass related to population. This quantitative metric is one method of evaluating the degree of endangerment.

Threatened: a plant or animal species that has been categorized by the IUCN Red List as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered.

IUCN Red List of Endangered Species lists 182 species of Indian birds in the categories of Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable, and Near Threatened.
