ABSTRACT
Similipal Biosphere Reserve (SBR) is only biosphere reserve of Odisha, hub of untamed wild phytoresources, where wild cucurbits play a significant role against the microbial infections. Antimicrobial resistance is a global burning problem. Keeping this in view, four wild cucurbits (Trichosanthus tricuspidata, Diplocyclos palmatus, Cucumis melo and Trichosanthus cucumerina) were selected as per their sound therapeutic in SBR.  Estimation of MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) values of said plant parts (leaves, fruits, root) was carried out against Streptococcus mutans (MTCC 497), Streptococcus pyogenes (MTCC 1926), Vibrio cholerae (MTCC 3906), Shigella flexneri (MTCC 1457) and Salmonella typhi (MTCC 1252). The results revealed that MIC of selected wild cucurbits plant parts extracts showed significant antibacterial activity. Out of the extracts, methanol extract of T. tricuspidata fruits exhibited highest inhibitory effect (200 µg/mL) against MTCC 1936 and MTCC 497.
