Tuberous plant of Odisha & Functional Food

Sanjeet Kumar

During 2009-2010, I was working on the indigenous knowledge of Dongria Kondha, a primitive tribal community of Odisha. They have sound skill in agriculture and therapeutic uses of wild plants. They collect the tuberous plant from the Niyamgiri forest and stored them for off agricultural seasons. They use them as food and medicine. This practice give us a modern scientific base line to develop the functional food or nutraceutical food. These food plants might be effective against malnutrition and microbial infections.
